Day 2 of 21 Days of Prayer

Matthew 3:11-12

“He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.” Sounds exciting doesn’t it? But what does it really mean? John the Baptist goes on to say that “His winnowing fan is in his hand and he will thoroughly clean out his threshing floor.” Here, he speaks of the winds of the Holy Spirit blowing away the chaff. The wheat remains. The chaff that remains will be burned way with “unquenchable fire”. Yikes!

The idea here is that the Holy Spirit brings fresh wind into our lives! The impurities in your life are now gone! That which is left is good and virtuous and can be used of God! Any impurities that remain in our lives, you know, the stubborn ones, are burned away with unquenchable fire. In other words we are made brand-new!

Fasting is such a process! When we fast and pray we ask that the winds of the Holy Spirit will cleanse us anew and set us aright with God! Stubborn impurities in our lives! We are then in alignment with the Father, a deep abiding work in the refining fire of God’s glory. Are you ready for God’s deeper work in you?
